Riesling Trail

Who invented Riesling? Where exactly does the Betschgräbler grow? What does ‘Gräbich’ mean? Why did the church bells of Eisental end up in the bell cemetery? What is the story behind the legend of the Kreutzbuckel? The newly redesigned Riesling Trail in Eisental answers these questions and many more.

There are 25 information boards along the 6 km-long hiking trail. The previous route of the Riesling Trail has been slightly altered and now passes more through the district of Müllenbach, so as to include the Alte Vogtei and the Wendelinus Chapel, as well as the general store ‘s’Kremers Bergl’ and Trappsgasse. Wine and village history are brought to life on the new Riesling Trail. The Riesling Trail will have two starting points: one at the Eisentäler Trottenplatz and the other directly at the Affentaler Winzergenossenschaft.

Viticulture – particularly Riesling – shapes the cultural identity of Eisental and the region. The local history society aims to showcase this through text and images, as well as videos. Additional information can be accessed via QR codes on the information boards, including clips from the Eisental films. Old photographs and aerial views will illustrate how the landscape and the village have changed. In this way, local history comes to life and can be explored on foot. With this new concept, which has already been successfully implemented on the Red Wine Trail, the Eisental Local History Society hopes to attract more wine tourists and day trippers, as well as families, school groups and other visitors wishing to experience the regional culture. The Riesling Trail also offers Eisental residents the chance to rediscover their home.
