08 – Riesling

Der Riesling ist die wichtigste Rebsorte in Eisental. Auf 22 Hektar prägt er hier die Weinlandschaft. In Eisental trägt er den traditionellen Namen „Betschgräbler“ und ist bekannt für sein frisches, fruchtiges Aroma sowie seine spritzige Säure.

Riesling ist eine natürliche Kreuzung aus Heunisch und einem Traminer-Klon. Er entwickelte sich aus Wildreben am Oberrhein und gilt daher als heimische Rebsorte. In Deutschland wird Riesling seit über 600 Jahren kultiviert.

Eine der Theorien zur Namensherkunft führt die Rebsorte Riesling auf das mittelhochdeutsche Wort „rus“ (= dunkel) zurück. Der Begriff „Rusling“ könnte sich auf das dunkle Holz der Rebe beziehen.

Le riesling est un croisement naturel entre le Heunisch et un clone de Traminer. Issu de vignes sauvages de la région du Haut-Rhin, il est considéré comme un cépage autochtone. Le riesling est cultivé en Allemagne depuis plus de 600 ans. Une théorie concernant l’origine du nom fait remonter le cépage riesling au mot moyen haut-allemand « rus » (= sombre). Le terme « Rusling » pourrait faire référence au bois sombre de la vigne.

In Eisental, it bears the traditional name “Betschgräbler” and is known for its fresh, fruity aroma and lively acidity. Riesling is a natural cross between Heunisch and a Traminer clone. It developed from wild vines in the Upper Rhine region and is therefore considered a native grape variety. Riesling has been cultivated in Germany for over 600 years. One theory regarding the origin of the name traces the Riesling grape variety back to the Middle High German word “rus” (= dark). The term “Rusling” could refer to the dark wood of the vine wood.
